by Thomas J. Belknap Ah Ha! Akismet, Of Course!

I don’t know why I need to have a WordPress.com site that I will never use to get the API key, but whatever.? I’ve been dealing with an obnoxious amount of spam, and realized that WordPress already came with a solution to the problem, I just needed to activate it.

Here’s to hoping that this does the trick.

Lara Logan is Now My Hero

I finally got to a PC with sound (the 9-to-5 is such a drag like that) to watch this video from CrooksAndLiars.com, and I’m now enthralled with Lara Logan.  Never mind that the woman has the guts to stick it out in Iraq with all the chaos and no flak jacket.  The woman is probably the first journalist to actually get down with these moron suits in the studio and tell them what’s really going on, no bullshit.

The best is here scoffing, “eight days!” at the end of the interview.  Awesome stuff, too bad that will likely be the last we hear of her in the MSM.  Here’s to hoping she sets up a blog.

Perhaps He Was Exaggerating For Effect?

Oops!  Italian Prime Minister Berlusconi accuse Mao of boiling babys to fertilize the fields.  Does that even make sense?

China decries Berlusconi baby boiling comments - Yahoo! News

“Go and read the black book on communism and you’ll find that under Mao’s China they didn’t eat babies but boiled them to fertilise the fields,” he told a rally.

Who Controls the Internet?

I’m about to start reading this book, Who Controls the Internet, but in the meanwhile, it certainly seems to provoking some interesting discussion:

Who Controls the Internet? and An Army of Davids By Glenn Reynolds and Tim Wu

Napoleon famously said that the tools belong to the man who can use them, and that’s the story here, too: Tools, by themselves, don’t provide freedom. They have to be used, by people. And, to emphasize where our approaches diverge, the point of my own book is that people are using them, to considerable effect.

Aaargh!!! WordPress Spam!!

This is driving me nuts.? I’ve literally had to delete (or set as spam, whatever) about twenty comments today, all of them spam.? All of them the same bullshit nonsense sentences and links to crap.? This is getting very tiresome; I have to wonder how bigger websites deal with this, though I suppose they just have legions of editors looking for comments to delete.

Sux.

Like the feathers from a lame duck, . . .

These are the days of our lives. . .

Bolten to Replace Card As Chief of Staff

White House chief of staff Andy Card has resigned and will be replaced by budget director Joshua Bolten, President Bush announced Tuesday amid growing calls for a White House shakeup and Republican concern about Bush’s tumbling poll ratings.

What a shame, what a shame. . .

Immigration Reform, Republicans and Elections (oh, my!)

I am constantly struck by the odd way that politics have turned and twisted all around in the last few years, but no where is this mangling more visible than with the question of Immigration Reform.

The Left seems utterly baffled by the entire thing, proving that many of us are more interested in fighting against The Right than in putting forth ideas. Sad but true, we even find Josh Marshall seeming to argue for border control. The trouble for The Left is that we have President Bush arguing for a guest worker program and at the same time Sensenbrenner and Tancredo arguing for some of the strictest anti-immigration policies that the country has ever seen. Both of these are collosally bad ideas by themselves for thier own reasons, so it’s tough to know where to begin arguing.

So I’ll punt. Instead, I’m inclinded for now to consider the political ramifications of this whole thing for the Republicans.

Arianna Speaks

In addition to being great questions, the below-linked article is perhaps the best roundup of Bush Administration crap I’ve ever seen on one page.  This one post alone is hours of fun!

4.) Allawi has said: “We are losing each day, as an average, 50 to 60 people through the country, if not more. If this is not civil war, then God knows what civil war is.” Do you think this is something you might discuss with God next time you speak?

Brittney in Sculpture? Oh, Boy

I’m not sure that even my most pagan of pagan friends would be inclined to have such a moment immortalized, much less as it is.

Britney sprog drop sculpture wows New York | The Register

Fair enough, you might say. However, the result is unusual, to say the least, showing the talented chanteuse on all fours clasping a dead bear’s ears while attempting to eject said infant. Britney drops sprog.

Wow.

  • A Tribute to John Lennon

In my Internet wanderings I've just stumbled upon "I Dig a Pygmy: A Tribute to John Lennnon" - a piece of "live musique concrète" whose sound sources consisted entirely of the utterances and recordings of John Lennon and the Beatles. The piece was composed and performed by Paul D. Lehrman, who's works include projects for PBS, the Learning Channel and the Discovery Channel to name a few.   You can watch his video performance and read the composition notes . . .
