Damn straight!  Big score for the WordPress developer crowd: Nancy Pelosi has instituted a new domain and a new blog for the Speaker of the House: Speaker.gov and The Gavel, respectively.  and The Gavel is powered by WordPress.

The Gavel || Privacy Protection

The Oversight committee has requested documents from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) amid recent reports that the TSA web site collected personal information without basic security measures to ensure privacy protection. Chairman Waxman writes:

They’ve nicely chosen to adopt WordPress’ Categories as “Issues,” making browsing the latest from the Speaker of the House on specific issues easier than ever.

I must say that, however trendy and manipulative it may seem (and however trendy and manipulative it may, in fact, be), this is at least a more organized form of responsive politics than we’ve seen in the past.  Generally, press releases and such from government organizations tend to be put out there without anything to index them and with very little to nothing that allows you to access them.  Have you ever tried searching one of these sites?  Oiye veh.

But by using WordPress, the Speaker’s domain becomes much more indexable, at least in terms of the blog.  If the paid bloggers are diligently reporting what’s going on in the Speaker’s world, finding information on this site should be much easier.

Of course, that’s just what I think now.  We’ll see how this all pans out when the next big leadership scandal hits the presses.
