Tatiana, according to news reports, has “attacked before.” The 300 pound cat has been killed after having somehow escaped her enclosure and attacked three people. But rather than question why people trained to keep animals are unable to properly care for a tiger, the news reports make it sound like a monster has escaped:
It’s a shame that Tatiana had to die, but since she was loose and attacking a still-living victim, reports don’t seem to indicate that there was really any option at that point. If the reports are accurate, this is a tragedy which had already happened the moment the tiger left the cage. But let’s be clear: she is an animal who hunts. She is a cat, and just like your cat, she’s not built by nature to resist the temptation of running animals.
So what is the culpability of the zoo in all this? Complete, from start to finish.
