Medicare: Another One Bites the Dust

Well, I’ve been waiting for the Senate to return to session so I can watch what’s going on there, but there’s an awful lot going on on the Capitol Hill right now, and most of it is good news.? The House is voting to put a mercy-bullet in that horrible Medicare package and the packages fate is going as you might predict: straight in the toilet, where it belongs.

A new Medicare package will need to be forged, which is no easy task, but certainly the new one will allow (or in some drafts, require) the secretary to negotiate with drug companies for the best prices.? That is a good thing for all of us, because as any fool knows, Free Market Economies require buyers that operate in their own best interests.? When the largest buyer in the world just lets the drug companies have their way with them, it causes outrageous inflation.

The measure to renegotiate the old package and include negotiations, has passed by a wide margin: 255 to 170.? Note that this is most certainly not a strictly party-line vote.? Hurray!
