Cause and Effect

When reading the news – especially economic news – one must be cautious when assigning causality to the things we read about in different reports. Still, one wonders when they see banks failing, factories closing, employees getting laid off and then finally this:

McDonald’s Corp. reported a 7.7% increase in November global same-store sales, with a 4.5% gain in the U.S., boosted by its breakfast business and the popularity of its chicken lineup.

It’s chicken lineup? We’re sure that’s what caused the bump in sales?
