Thank You to Everyone Who Voted!

The Best of Rochester winners have been announced and are posted at the City Newspaper website. Sadly, despite all the effort of our fans and friends – and no little campaigning by our crack staff of writers – this was not our year to win for Best Blog. Still, it WAS our year to be nominated, which is better than we’ve done in the past and we owe all the gratitude to you, our loyal fans who have nominated and voted us where we are today!

I’m working on a new banner for the sidebar that says, “nominated one of the Best Blogs in Rochester by City Newspaper,” because I really am that proud. And I look forward to next year, when I shall prevail upon you once again to get the word out and fight for DFE! Thanks again and have a look at all the great restaurants, shops, attractions and yes, blogs that there are in Rochester to be proud of:

City News Supports Barack – Your Vote Matters!!

City is endorsing Barack Obama for the Democratic ticket for president this year.  The article is a very well thought-out piece that goes into the reasons not to endorse Hillary, Kucinich or Jon Edwards as well as discussing their reasoning for endorsing Barack.  I tend to agree with the article on all points, since of course I endorsed Barack as well.

BTW, for those of you who don’t know and are wondering whether your vote in the primaries will even matter, take heart!  While I would certainly argue that your vote always counts, keep in mind that this is not an Electoral College style vote.  The winner does not take all, rather each candidate gets a proportion.  This article lays out the way it works fairly well, but the point is that the delegates you’re casting votes for are awarded to the candidates proportionately, meaning that if the candidates split the state 33%, 33% and 34%, they each get that many delegates.

More delegates are awarded by the state Dem Party leaders and others by a committee of Democrats.  Those will likely go to Hillary, of course, but that’s not guaranteed.   And a large chunk of delegates are up for grabs by all the candidates.  So, even if your candidate doesn’t “win” the state, they still get a boost going into the Convention that might just push them over the top!

City News “Best of Rochester Awards” Out

Well, it’s that time of year again: time to trot out the best of the best, by readers’ choice, of all that is Rochester. I always enjoy reading the City Best of Rochester winners. City has such a great off-the-cuff sense of humor, it takes the pretention out of such a contest.

This year, The Buddhahood took the awards for both Best Band and Best Band Name, which is pretty cool. I hope they take this as a sign that folks around here want to keep seeing them at the Park Ave Fest! Close to my heart, Show World on Brighton-Henrietta TLR took best porn store, and if you don’t know that by now, you need to quit whacking off to PornoTube.com. Oh, of course you don’t.
