Ralph Nader’s making headlines with a new YouTube video. Ah, YouTube. The last refuge of a political loser.
In the video, Nader laments that he might get more media attention if he dressed up in a bear suit. Well, don’t let me stop you there, Sparky. But do you suppose you might get more attention in general if you did something – anything – other than run for president? If you actively supported candidates for other, less prestigious positions? If you railed against injustice like some of us remember you doing? You know, when it wasn’t for your personal presidential glory?
I don’t mean to suggest that the other two candidates in the race are not working on self-aggrandizing schemes. You could hardly run for a position like President of the United States without being rather vain. What I am saying is that showing up after every four years of disaster to declare us in a crisis for which only you have a cure is not helping anybody. Barack Obama has the faith of people who’ve seen him put community organizing principles to work in his campaign. John McCain has the feeble-minded, the senile and recent sufferers of head injuries who are still under the impression that John McCain is still the man he said he was eight years ago. What do you have?
